There's a lot of contradictions here, and I'm the first to admit it. Bestiaries are Medieval artifacts - is the series set in the Middle Ages? NO, it is not. The series begins in January of 2009, which might mean a middle age for some, but is in fact in the near recent past. Why then a Bestiary? The medieval bestiaries are collections of animals - each book revolves around a different animal. And, it's a cool word. Bestiary. Try it.
I happen to believe that the community of folks who love animals - who know in their hearts that their lives are enriched by the other creatures that share our spaces, and all the other wonders of creation, whether four footed, feathered or finned - who know that these creatures are wonderous blessings, not to be taken for granted - that community is HUGE, is LOVING, and is mine.
